Instructional Systems Design

Our Instructional Designers take input from subject matter experts, documentation, existing training products, and instructors, along with observational Job Task Analyses, to design the optimal blended training solution for our customers.

Analysis
Effective training begins with a Front End Analysis (FEA) that capitalizes on commonly accepted principles of learning theory to achieve the most effective training possible. The FEA determines the optimal blend of training methods that will be the most effective and efficient. LSI has the capability to provide training and evaluation solutions across a wide range of audiences and formats and we provide highly technical, advanced educational programs on some of the most sophisticated equipment used by military forces.

Through the efficient application of the FEA, LSI often can reduce training development time and costs through optimally designed blended training solutions. With extensive experience in the determination and development of appropriate levels of simulation-based training, LSI determines the most efficient and cost effective combination of courseware augmented with desk-top simulation to meet customer requirements.

Design
LSI follows standardized processes and procedures to transition the outcomes of the FEA into a design for the training solution.

During the design process, LSI ensures the developed training:

  • Adequately addresses all learning styles
  • Effectively incorporates all appropriate elements of adult learning theory
  • Can effectively reach kinesthetic learners
  • Capitalizes on the elements of adult learning; motivation, reinforcement, retention, and transference

Our Instructional Designers take input from subject matter experts, documentation, existing training products, and instructors, along with observational Job Task Analyses, to design the optimal blended training solution for our customers. Our experts rapidly gather and analyze massive amounts of information and synthesize it into exactly the training required by our customer.

The design combines commonly accepted principles of learning theory with established standards, innovative instructional approaches, with appropriate media to create a solid blueprint for the creation of comprehensive instruction. The design also integrates and synchronizes planned instruction with existing training solutions whenever possible. An additional benefit of LSI’s design approach is the incorporation of techniques and methods that make future revision more efficient, resulting in cost savings in the training over the life cycle of the training requirement.

Development
LSI instructional design and development experts use tools created to incorporate commonly accepted principles of learning theory, established standards, and state-of-the-art media to transition the design into a blended training solution. In addition to the development of the training solution content, LSI procures any needed materials, hardware, software, and personnel in accordance with our customer requirements.  Our process provides for formative customer changes to a design solution in response to evolving requirements and thorough testing of the training solution prior to delivery to the customer.  During development, LSI utilizes feedback mechanisms for our customers to provide recommendations for training curriculum improvements directly linked to Knowledge, Skills, Attitude (KSAs) identified for specific requirements.

Implementation
The refined processes and procedures LSI uses to deliver our customer’s training solution takes into account learner makeup, schedule, location, and/or personnel, to ensure the best possible integration of the solution into the customer’s existing environment. LSI provides for the enabling of end-users to most effectively use and maintain the training solution.

Evaluation/Revision
Even after Implementation, LSI utilizes feedback mechanisms for our customers to provide recommendations for training curriculum improvements directly linked to Knowledge, Skills, Attitude (KSAs) identified for specific requirements. Our processes and procedures allow for the maintenance and revision of our customer’s training solution over time.

Information provided through feedback allows for the identification and resolution of problems/issues, maintenance of proper documentation and data, and supporting our customer’s ongoing training requirements.
